Life-Affirming Nations under God

By Mark Davis Pickup

I dream of a time when America and Canada will be life-affirming nations under God. Our nations must not abandon God or He may abandon us. We must return to Him with repentant hearts—not only as individuals but as a people. I believe God may still take us back to Himself despite the blood of millions of unborn children that has polluted the land and cries out for justice.1 Now, the sin of euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide is at the door. Do not take this lightly! God judges individuals, but history reveals He also judges nations.

Yet, even at this late hour, I believe God may still forgive our nations if we turn to Him in repentance and away from this moral quagmire into which our culture is willfully descending.

God spoke through Moses to the children of Israel. His words come to us from antiquity:

For the Lord will again rejoice over you for good as He rejoiced over your fathers if you obey the voice of God, to keep His commandments and His statutes which are written in this Book of the Law, and if you turn to the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. For this commandment which I command you today, it is not too mysterious for you nor is it far off. It is not in heaven that you should say, “Who will ascend into heaven for us to bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?” Nor is it beyond the sea, that you should say, “Who will go over the sea for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?” But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it. See, I have set before you life and good, death and evil. . . . I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessings and cursing; therefore choose life that you and your descendants may live; that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and length of days (Deuteronomy 30: 9b-15, 19-20a).

God’s word is the Bible. In it, and through it, we hear God’s voice.

The laws of a nation must try to reflect God’s laws and commandments. Laws that contradict the word of God are corrupt.

We pray that God’s will be done on earth as it is in heaven; we must then live in accordance to God’s will as revealed in His word.2

Let us return to historic Christianity that made western civilization great. Let us embrace once again the sanctity of human life because we all bear the image of God. Value every life because human life matters, just like the name of [my] blog emphatically states.

1) Genesis 4:10. The blood of Abel cried out to God after Cane murdered him. So to the blood of aborted children must cry out to God.

2) Cp. John 1:1-4. 14.
