Pro-Life This Week – January 31, 2020

Week in Review – March for Life

This past Friday, hundreds of thousands of people were in Washington, DC, to attend the annual March for Life. It is very difficult to convey the sheer magnitude of the annual March. Students for Life of America produced a time-lapse one-minute video and show the mass of people that marched. You can view it here.

The history-making event at the March was the in-person appearance of President Donald Trump on stage. Amidst tight security, Trump gave a speech that was all about God and His preborn children. You can read his full statement on the White House website. We present to you here just a few selected excerpts:

  • All of us here today understand an eternal truth: Every child is a precious and sacred gift from God. Together, we must protect, cherish, and defend the dignity and sanctity of every human life.
  • We cannot know what our citizens yet unborn will achieve, the dreams they will imagine, the masterpieces they will create, the discoveries they will make.
  • But we know this: Every life brings love into this world. Every child brings joy to a family. Every person is worth protecting.
  • Above all, we know that every human soul is divine, and every human life –- born and unborn –- is made in the holy image of Almighty God.
  • Together, we will defend this truth all across our magnificent land.

American Life League had a booth at the MFL Expo and we were able to talk with hundreds of pro-lifers from all over the country. The mood was upbeat. People recognized the fact that babies are still dying and we must keep up our efforts. People were upset that every single Democrat running for president wants to kill more children, not less. But, they believe the American public is starting to realize the horror of abortion. The extreme position of these candidates is causing many to question abortion.

This week, the Culture of Life Studies Program released the results of its annual essay contest. All of the winning entries are posted on the CLSP website; you can read them here. These essays were written by young people from third grade to seniors in high school. They are thought-provoking and inspirational. Please read them and understand the thinking of those of the newest generation.

On January 22, 2020 (the 47th anniversary of Roe v. Wade), the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) approved the Texas Medicaid waiver to fund the Healthy Texas Women Program. This program provides family planning services while excluding abortion providers such as Planned Parenthood. The battle over this funding has been going on for almost a decade. The Obama administration took all Medicaid family planning money away from Texas because it wouldn’t give any of it to Planned Parenthood. Now, the Trump administration has given it back!

This approval now opens the door for other states to apply (and get) similar waivers in their states. Although not all states will apply for the waiver, it is anticipated that as many as 20 states could eventually remove Planned Parenthood from their Medicaid programs using this type of waiver.

ALL in the News – ALL Stands Firm against Murderous Compromise

On January 20, in response to Kansas proposals SCR 1613 and HCR 5019, Judie Brown released this statement opposing the compromise and unprincipled language contained in both proposals. The statement was featured in The Kansan article, “Proposed constitutional amendment evokes strong views on abortion”. This article was reprinted in various Kansas outlets over 10 times.

Judie’s weekly commentaries continue to be featured as a column on Renew America

Jim Sedlak’s Pro-Life Activism from Creation to Death is a weekly talk-radio program on the Radio Maria USA network. The show can be heard live every Friday at noon (Eastern Time) and is repeated on Saturdays (10 PM).

Pro-life Social Media – Thirty Best Signs We Saw at the March for Life

The annual pro-life march in Washington, DC, appears to get bigger and bigger as years pass. And one thing we’re noticing is the trend of abandoning pre-printed signs distributed by pro-life organizations in favor of homemade ones. It’s a better alternative, since you’re more likely to get photographed.

Below are the 30 best pro-life signs we were lucky to capture on film.
