Victory: New Hampshire and Texas Pull Funding from Planned Parenthood

By Rita Diller

Planned Parenthood is taking one crippling blow after another as state leaders strike at the abortion giant’s taxpayer funding.

New Jersey, Indiana, Kansas, Tennessee, North Carolina, Wisconsin, and New Hampshire have, within recent days and months, taken some funding from Planned Parenthood. The New Hampshire Executive Council declined to fund a $1.8 million contract with Planned Parenthood of Northern New England (PPNNE) last week, citing the fact that PPNNE commits abortions, and its CEO earns in excess of $250,000. STOPP’s Jim Sedlak testified before a New Hampshire senate committee a few years ago asking them to defund Planned Parenthood.

And from Texas, where everything is bigger — including Planned Parenthood funding cuts — the House and Senate overwhelmingly passed Senate Bill 7 on Monday, which will cut at least $34 million for the next two years to Planned Parenthood. It will also ban the Travis County Health District from paying for abortions with tax money. The bill is on its way to pro-life Governor Rick Perry for signature. It will take effect September 1, striking the largest monetary blow to date in any state, to the abortion giant.

Congratulations to all in Texas who worked so hard to push this legislation through the special session, as well as to the people of New Hampshire who have relieved Planned Parenthood of some of the taxpayers’ hard-earned dollars.
