(October 11, 2022 – Fredericksburg, Virginia) Faithful Catholics continue to pray the rosary as part of the Marian Blue Wave, American Life League’s growing movement to eliminate abortion. The program’s third anniversary is marked on October 12, 2022, with a 9 a.m. (Eastern) prayer gathering outside of the Planned Parenthood abortion mega-facility in the nation’s capital, located at 1225 4th St NE in Washington, DC. This call to Catholics throughout America now numbers 10,000 participants, an exponential 2,000% increase from the 500 who signed up to be part of the Marian Blue Wave in its first month.

“The national debate over abortion has escalated since the United States Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade,” observed Katie Brown, director of the Marian Blue Wave. “It is more important than ever for Catholics and other Christians to wage this battle over the evil of abortion with the power of God and the intercession of His blessed mother.”

Marian Blue Wave participants commit to pray a weekly rosary with the specific intentions of ending all types of abortions—including surgical, pill, contraceptive, and in vitro fertilization—and shutting down every Planned Parenthood facility in America. Additionally, the movement seeks to close all other abortion facilities in the United States and change the hearts of Catholics who advocate for or promote abortion.

“The Marian Blue Wave focuses on the true evil behind abortion and rallies people together to fight that evil with our most powerful weapon: the rosary,” explained Brown.

The Marian Blue Wave has drawn support from all 50 states, representing every Catholic diocese in the country, along with 31 other nations around the world. With 10,000 individuals participating, more than 1.5 million rosaries have been said to end abortion and shut down Planned Parenthood.

“Each month, our prayers have targeted one of Planned Parenthood’s 34 mega-abortion facilities throughout the country. They are usually constructed under the guise of neighborhood revitalization, near university campuses or bordering states that limit abortion. Each is over 10,000 square feet and can commit abortions on hundreds of women each day,” shared Brown. “We pray that God will bring about the closing of these Planned Parenthood facilities. We pray for the preborn babies whose lives are ended at these facilities. And we pray for the protection of teenagers who are lured into these facilities and ushered into lives of sexual sin.”

Brown notes that over the three-year existence of the Marian Blue Wave there have been significant events that have impacted the Catholics taking part, most notably the overturning of Roe v. Wade in June 2022. She also shared that from its inception in October 2019 through July 2022, the Marian Blue Wave has witnessed the closure of 67 Planned Parenthood sites.

Discussion surrounding the communion of Catholics who openly support abortion, such as President Joe Biden and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, brought the conversation of protecting Christ in the Eucharist to the forefront, with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ 2021 “Eucharistic Coherence” Conference.

“This is important because it is the bishops’ job to teach the truth about abortion, which the Roman Catholic Church declares to be an abhorrent mortal sin,” Brown reported.

“The rosary, which is the primary tool implemented in the spiritual warfare conducted by the Marian Blue Wave, has been attacked relentlessly by the far left,” observed Brown. “This has brought about a deeper devotion for Christians who believe in the power of this prayer.”

The Marian Blue Wave has its roots in an invitation by Bishop Joseph Strickland of Tyler, Texas, for all Catholics to “refocus on the beautiful gift of the rosary and the call to prayer that the Blessed Virgin Mary has given us so many times.”

“With this Marian Blue Wave, we certainly pray for the sanctity of life, from conception to natural death,” added Strickland. “And we pray for healing in the world and the Church at this time.”
