American Life League Testifies at Hearing for Montana Personhood Bill

Washington, DC (14 February 2011) – “We are honored today,” said Judie Brown, president of American Life League, “to speak out in a public forum in support of legal recognition of the personhood of preborn human beings.”

Brown was commenting on the fact that American Life League’s senior congressional liaison, Johanna Dasteel, is in Montana today and will testify during a hearing on HB 490.

This bill is intended to amend Article II, section 17, of the constitution of the State of Montana to read:

Section 17. Due process of law.

(1) No person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law.

(2) As used in this section, the word “person” applies to all members of the species Homo sapiens at any stage of development, including the stage of fertilization or conception, regardless of age, health, level of functioning, or condition of dependency.

(3) The legislature shall implement this section by appropriate legislation.

“The goal of the pro-life movement from its beginning has been to establish recognition of the humanity of the preborn child in law and in the culture. HB 490 recognizes that every human being’s human rights must be acknowledged and legally protected,” Brown said.

“As Americans, we are witnessing the final chapter of the civil rights movement. With the introduction of this amendment in Montana, and similar initiatives in states all across the United States, it is only a matter of time before we come to honor and respect every human being – regardless of age, condition of dependency, or place of residence,” concluded Brown.

American Life League was cofounded in 1979 by Judie Brown. It is the largest grassroots Catholic pro-life organization in the United States and is committed to the protection of all innocent human beings from the moment of creation to death.
