Wisconsin Pro-Lifers Shut Down Late-Term Abortion Plans at Madison Surgery Center

After 16 months of constant prayer and pro-life activism, the Madison Surgery Center has abandoned its plans to perform late-term abortions.

American Life League president Judie Brown extended her gratitude to the diligent and faithful people involved with American Life League Associate group Pro-Life Wisconsin. The group organized countless prayer vigils attended by thousands, aired hundreds of pro-life television commercials, started an activism web site, circulated a petition signed by thousands of community members and organized a boycott.

“For months, we at American Life League have joined in prayer with the people in the trenches at the Madison Surgery Center,” Brown said. “Their unbelievable courage and faithfulness, even when late-term abortions at the MSC seemed inevitable, has been and still is such a source of inspiration to us! God has truly blessed their efforts!”

Wisconsin state Attorney General Kevin Potter, in a letter to an Eau Claire attorney dated April 30, confirmed that the University of Wisconsin has abandoned plans to provide late-term abortions at the Center.

The year long fight began in February 2009 when the MSC board voted to allow late-term abortions at the state-of-the-art facility.

In January 2010, documents obtained by Pro-Life Wisconsin and the Alliance Defense Fund via a Freedom of Information Act request exposed plans the facility might be designed to supply the UW’s medical researchers with fresh fetal body parts for experimentation.

“Praise God for the thousands of hard working pro-lifers on the ground in Wisconsin,” Brown continued. “Their efforts have averted a very real tragedy and injustice against human personhood.”

“We give credit first and foremost to God for this pro-life victory,” said Peggy Hamill, state director of Pro-Life Wisconsin. “Pro-life activism works.”
