Trump: The Facts and the Bitter Pill

The Trump administration has issued a couple of regulations that are bound to give Planned Parenthood and its allies severe heartburn. These new rules roll back the Obama birth control mandate, thus giving employers “the opportunity to seek an exemption when it comes to providing contraception coverage for their employees.”

The new rules protect employers who cannot, in good conscience, cover deadly birth control chemicals and devices in their employee health insurance coverage. In essence, this means that the rules protect the religious liberty of employers. They are not, I repeat, not mandatory.

Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List, commented on the new regulations saying: “No longer will Catholic nuns who care for the elderly poor be forced by the government to provide abortion-inducing drugs in their health care plans. Not only that, moral objectors such as Susan B. Anthony List will also no longer have to pay for life-ending drugs that are antithetical to their mission and for which we have argued there is certainly no ‘compelling state interest.’”

While the new rules make perfect sense to those who understand that most birth control chemicals and devices can kill preborn children and thus are early day abortion drugs, there are those who are not honest about these facts and never have been. For them, the new rules are a crisis.

The pro-abortion handmaids of the culture of death—the media—went into overdrive with hysteria. CNN, for example, reported: “This administration and the GOP are ignoring the overwhelming majority of Americans who want access to contraception, abortion, and other modern sexual health services and education. Reproductive freedom isn’t controversial; the majority of voters support abortion and over 99% of women ages 15-44 who have had sexual intercourse have used at least one method of contraception, according to the Guttmacher Institute.”

And as if to put media frosting on the CNN cake, Fortune reports that the Trump administration has cracked down on abortion rights!

What can we learn from this? Well, the first lesson is that the abortion cartel in America does not accept the fact that anyone should have freedom of conscience or religious freedom if such freedoms are going to impinge on their business—the sex business, that is. And second, their cries of foul tell us that they KNOW that most contraceptives do kill or else they would never refer to these regulations as a crackdown on abortion!

And then we see inane comments from Planned Parenthood staff members, like Sari Stevens, executive director of Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania Advocates, who repeats the lie that “birth control prevents abortion.” Stevens added that “most people don’t even consider access to contraception to be controversial.”

Well, there you have it! Just because most people do not even know how the pill or other birth control devices and chemicals work means that their ignorance is license to continue lying.

Rather than vowing to make sure the public KNOWS that these chemicals and devices can kill, organizations like Planned Parenthood and the media prefer to prey on the ignorant.

I look back with humble gratitude to the heroic leaders of the pro-life movement who taught us these truths years ago. As Father Paul Marx once wrote,

Having traveled and worked in 91 countries, I find no country where contraception has not led to abortion, to increasing fornication among the young, to divorce, and to all those other evils we see today that make up the international sex mess.

As a British humorist and convert to the Catholic Church (mostly because of Humanae Vitae) observed, once you say that you may morally siphon off procreation from the marital/sexual act, then you are back to the old paganism when contraception, abortifacients, and abortion for failed contraception were rife, all leading to the dying of nations once abortion entered society. And if sexual activity can be allowed for recreation, said Malcolm Muggeridge, then “any orifice will do.”

Indeed, as an ancient wise man said, “God always forgives; men sometimes; nature never.”

Let us remember this wisdom and never fail to teach the truth. By teaching the facts, we are protecting the vulnerable and protecting others from swallowing the bitter pill of death.
